COSC455 Assessable assignment 3

DUE DATE: Monday 11 October 2009 at 5.00pm, e-mail submission

This assignment is worth 15% of the marks in Paper COSC455

  1. Using Mirage, create an Animation of five to ten seconds demonstrating one or more of the "Principles of Animation" discussed in the lectures.
  2. Record your animation as a Quicktime movie or other agreed format. 384x288 pixels is a good size.
  3. Deliver the animation or leave it on a machine from which it can be played.
  4. Write a short description (600 word maximum) to explain your design decisions.
  5. Submit your description in plain text, and the location of your animation and source files by e-mail to geoff@otago.ac.nz
Note: Make sure that the files and directories are world-readable

This is a straightforward assignment but it does require some creative effort. Usually, everyone does well and some got very high marks. Please discuss your plan in advance with me before you spend too much time on it.

Joint submissions are possible. Come and discuss it first. Do not decide to make a longer animation without asking. Five to ten seconds is plenty to illustrate a principle. I don't want a huge rendering bottleneck the week before the due date.

Please note that no paper submission is expected.

You have ample time to complete this assignment. If you submit more than a week early, I will attempt to mark and return your work within three days and if it is worth less than full marks you can try again any time up to the due date. However, I cannot guarantee the response time. It depends on how many people are looking for feedback at the same time.
