Title:

Big Data and Evolutionary Computation

Location:

Owheo 106 - 1:00 pm, Thursday 26 February

Abstract:

Big data has become one of the most popular words in recent years. It rises from almost every field of science and industry. However, what is big data exactly? Data over TB or YB? Data that have many types? Or data with the famous 4V features? In addition, is big data valuable only because of its big volume?

In the seminar, the speaker would like to share his understanding on big data. Since evolutionary computation is considered one of the most promising ways to address the challenges in big data, in the final section, the speaker will introduce his works on evolutionary computation.

About the Speaker:

Jun Zhang (M'02-SM'08) received the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the City University of Hong Kong, Kowloon, Hong Kong, in 2002. From 2003 to 2004, he was a Brain Korean 21 Post-Doctoral Fellow with the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, Daejeon, Korea.
