Title:

On the Testability of BDI Agent Systems

Location:

Owheo G34 - 1:00 pm, Friday 20 May

Abstract:

Before deploying a software system, it is important to ensure that it will function correctly. Traditionally, this is done by testing the system with a collection of test cases. However, it is "intuitively obvious" that adaptive systems, including agent-based systems, can exhibit complex behaviour, and are thus harder to test. In this talk I will describe work (some joint with Professor Cranefield) that examines this "obvious intuition" in the case of goal-plan agents (aka Belief-Desire-Intention [BDI] agents). This works sheds light on the feasibility of testing goal-plan based autonomous agents. No prior knowledge of agent-based systems is required.
