Title:

The Development of Valid Measurement with Heterogeneous Indicators

Location:

Owheo G34 - 1:00 pm, Friday 9 September

Abstract:

While the use of heterogeneous indicators has long been advocated in building valid measurement instruments, measures in Management and Information Systems have mostly been developed using single models, single modes of data collection or single procedures of estimation. In this paper we present further rationale for deploying heterogeneity in the broader guidance of the measurement development process. In this context we provide an overview of the sources of error and review how to develop indicators that are differentially sensitive to such errors. We also provide an empirical demonstration to show practical applications of our guidelines, which we believe would help researchers develop more robust and valid measurement instruments.
