Modern machine vision systems have achieved near human accuracy for base object detection from visual data in recent years. However, robust recognition of fine-grained sub-categories remain an open challenge. The present research has developed collaborative filter based methods to progress the state of the art in representation and recognition of fine-grained categories of images. The work has received the Diane-Campbell Hunt Memorial Award, 2017.
