Last year I asked COSC345 students to find, read, and comment on New Zealand software patents relating to their group project. The experience left most of them convinced software patents were a sinister and malevolent plot, almost _anything_ but text meant for human beings to read. Are patents really different from other documents? What do you actually DO when trying to find out?
