PostgraduateStudyMost of the students associated with the Graphics and Vision Laboratoryare postgrads or students in the fourth year of their honours course. Thepostgraduate courses offered are:
Postgraduate Diploma (PG Dip)This is the equivalent of the fourth year of an honours course, andis taken after a degree (often in Computer Science) has been completed.The course consists of four papers at 400-level and a research projectwhich carries the same weight as two normal papers. Students associatedwith the Graphics and Vision Lab usually take one or both of COSC453 (ComputerVision) and COSC455 (Computer Graphics). Masters Courses (MSc/MA)Courses are available for both the Masters of Arts and Masters of Science.A Masters course is taken over one or two years. A Masters by thesis onlytakes one year and usually requires an honours course, or the equivalent.A Masters by papers and thesis usually takes two years. In the first yearthe equivalent of a Postgraduate Diploma, or fourth year honours course,is taken, and the second year is thesis work. Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)Study for a PhD usually takes three years. A PhD consists of a thesisonly, although an oral examination may be undertaken as well. A PhDmust make an "original contribution to knowledge", but you get to callyourself "Doctor" at the end of it.
