For many years Haami has been involved in research, management and administration for Southern Wairarapa iwi and inter-relationships of iwi with other agencies.

Ngati Hinewaka have recently reconstructed a pre-European house in the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, taking as their starting point a house excavated in Palliser Bay. Haami Te Whaiti leads this project.
