I have a BSc(hons) in Statistics and MSc(hons) in Underwater Acoustics from Auckland, and a PhD in Artificial Intelligence from Edinburgh. I worked at Quintus Computer Systems, then wanted to get back into academia and went to RMIT to be part of the logic programming scene in Melbourne. I then wanted to be back in New Zealand and so came to Dunedin. I would sum up my research interests by saying - Everything connects! My biggest problem is that just about everything is interesting. What have you got? My biggest concern is that most programs don't work, hence my interest in Software Engineering, and my liking for Ada. How can we apply neat ideas like logic programming, functional programming, meta-programming, formal methods, natural language processing, and so on to help build programs that work? My continuing interest in Statistics and Data Mining stems from the same concern: how can we avoid being misled by data?
