     Dear Sundstrum Competitor

                                   Introduction

     Organisation is underway for the 1998 Sundstrum Rally, which this year will take competitors to Wanaka for an exciting night and two days of competitive motoring, where both the skills of the navigator and the driver will be thoroughly tested. We have enclosed two entry forms with your Rally information. We hope you can encourage someone you know to enter the Sundstrum, either a new or past participant. Payment for entry fees and meal ticket purchases must accompany the entry form.

                   Rally Dates
     This year, the event will be run on the weekend of the 3/4 October starting from Dunedin on the Friday evening, 2 October and going through to Wanaka. We will return to Dunedin on the afternoon of Sunday 4 October.

                  Accommodation
     You will require two nights accommodation at Wanaka, Friday 2 and Saturday 3. The Saturday function will be at the Edgewater Hotel. Please note that accommodation this year will be the responsibility of the entrant so please ensure you make your bookings early, as rooms may be at a premium. There are two AA Host properties in Wanaka - Motel and Lodge style where member rates apply. There is a good selection of other accommodation in Wanaka and AA Travel will be pleased to assist at no cost to you.

                 Training Night
     A training and briefing night will be held for all drivers and navigators at the Abbey Lodge on Wednesday the 30 September commencing at 7.30 pm. This should take around two hours

                    The Rally
     The rally will take an interesting route to Wanaka on Friday evening and on Saturday field tests will be carried out at a location in Wanaka on Saturday. Dinner will be at the Edgewater Hotel commencing at 7.00pm. A happy hour will run from 5.30pm, at which results of the the rally to date and Saturday's activities will be available. Sunday will see a testing route home with the finish in Dunedin at approximately 5.00pm. Sunday lunch will be provided on route. The cost of dinner Saturday evening ($30.00) and lunch Sunday ($12.50) are listed in your entry form. Make your reservation for both on the entry form. Details of the start location for the rally on Friday evening will be given at briefing at the training night

                  Prize Giving
     A prize giving ceremony will be held at the Abbey Lodge on Wednesday 7 October commencing at 7.30pm and will be followed by a light supper with tea, coffee or fruit juice. We will be having a novelty prize list this year to add to the fun and interest of the event. We'll need your stories to sort out worthy recipients.
