Background and interests
I joined the department in November 1984, at which time I was
programmer, technician, and assistant secretary.
I set up our first Unix network, with Sun 3/50s and disk storage
units I put together myself in late 1985 / 1986. I helped wire up
our first Macintosh Laboratory, and was responsible for first-line
hardware and software maintenance on all our machines as well as labs
and tutes.
I now have time for little else except our Unix workstations
(Suns, DECs, SGI, HP - even NeXTSTEP) and dealing with purchasing
and maintenance for the department. I am also the Oracle DBA.
I have a BBS from Massey, and have completed the Computer Science
undergrauate course at Otago University.
I also have completed my Restricted "A" Electricians Ticket at
Otago Polytechnic, and have studied practical micro-computer
hardware courses, also at Otago Polytechnic.
What Life?
Oh, Okay! .....
Reading, ice wine,
car trials, role playing, SF, cross-sums (now known as sudoku) and skiing
Marathon gives me motion sickness (I'd rather play games like Diablo and
NeverWinter Nights), and I like to keep out of the kitchen.
(I've done my time.)
I come from a large close-knit family
(we play together - canasta, scrabble, pictionary, charades, tea-parties ....)
