Background and interests 

I joined the Computer Science deparment at Otago, just before the beginning of the new millennium, in December 2000. In my previous existence as a pure mathematician I was interested in a variety of topics, ranging from combinatorics, through algebra, into model theory, with the occasional side trip into statistics. I don't expect that moving to Computer Science will change that sort of pack rat behaviour, but my current interests are in CS Theory, particularly algorithms and data structures, and combinatorial computing. My curriculum vitae makes particularly dull reading.

Some recent work which I undertook with Mike Atkinson deals (in a fairly non-serious way) with how to sort objects with forkifts.
