  • PhD Opportunities: From 2006, international students enrolling for PhD study at Otago will be eligible to pay local level fees. Together with an Otago PhD Scholarship or an International Doctoral Research Scholarship and improved work opportunities this makes Otago the best choice for obtaining your PhD in Computer Science!

  • AnimfxNZ 2006 will be held in Wellington on Nov 4th and 5th. It is the first animation and visual effects symposium ever held in New Zealand. Speakers include influential figures from studios such as DreamWorks SKG, Warner Bros. Feature Animation, Weta Digital, and Pixar, as well as leaders in technology research and development from IBM's TJ Watson Research Laboratory ... amongst others.

  • Alexis Angelidis is back until Septmeber from the DGP Lab before heading to Pixar. In the meantime he has taken up a visiting research position collaborating with Brendan McCane. (May 2006)

  • The Graphics Lab hosted two major conferences in November 2005: Graphite 2005, the 3rd international conference on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques in Australasia and Southeast Asia, and IVCNZ05, Image and Vision Computing New Zealand.

  • OUSA 2005 Teaching Award for Brendan McCane.
    Congratulations to Brendan who was one of the 10 recipients of this year's OUSA's Teaching Awards. The award ceremony was held in the Registry Building on 13 October, attended by students and staff.

  • Freeware release of Tartini: Music Analysis Tool
    Tartini is a real-time music analysis tool being developed by PhD student Phil Mcleod, Geoff Wyvill and Don Warrington (Physics). It allows a musician to simply play sound into the computer and it will display useful technical information about your sound including information on pitch, dynamics (loudness) and harmonic structure. This is suitable for both amateur and professional musicians alike.
    Tartini has sparked intrest around the world and you can download this amazing software for free on www.tartini.net.

  • Congratulations again to Alexis Angelidis, who has received another Best Paper Award this time at Pacific Graphics 2004 (annual international conference on computer graphics and applications) in Seoul, Korea for his paper, "Swirling Sweepers: Constant Volume Modeling". (10 Oct2004)

  • We farewell graphics lecturer, Scott King, who returns to the US to take up a post at Texas A& M-Corpus Christi. Here are the photos ofthe farewell at the Graphics lab and later that night at Filadelfio's. (2 July 2004)
