Larry Spitz

Larry Spitz

DocRec Ltd, New Zealand

Larry Spitz came to the world of document analysis more than 25 years ago after an early career in upper atmosphere physics where he used image processing and pattern recognition techniques in an attempt to correlate auroral displays at geomagnetically conjugate points in the Antarctic and Arctic.

He did document recognition research at a succession of companies, large and small, including ten years at Xerox PARC. Eight years ago, he founded a consulting company with government and commercial clients, which provides a range of services for its clients including algorithm and software development, literature review, feasibility studies and seminars for client staff.

He is a Fellow of the International Association for Pattern Recognition and is co-chair of the IAPR Workshop on Document Analysis Systems to be held in Nelson in February 2006.
