Our research goal is to bring stronger "population" semantics to publish/subscribe systems. Typically, pub/sub systems focus on scalability, and in order to scale, they are willing to sacrifice the strong semantics that more heavyweight group communication systems provide. We are seeking a more flexible balance between scalability and information about the message dissemination system and the data it manages.

The ASIA prototype integrates a lightweight mechanism for gathering population information from an active publish/subscribe system.

After testing our approach on an internal testbed, we migrated our code to work with http://www.emulab.net/ for future experimentation.

We published a tech report in 2011 that is now subsumed by our 2013 AOSD paper.
