Research Groups and Themes

I am a member of the Brain Health Research Center and the AI Research Group. I am also associated with the University of Otago Research Theme on Memory: Mechanisms Processes and Applications and Bioinformatics and Computational Molecular Biology.

Research Projects of Lubica Benuskova

  • Computational models of synaptic plasticity with Prof. Cliff Abraham from the Department of Psychology at U. Otago and Peter Jedlicka, MD, PhD from J.W.Goethe University, Frankfurt, Germany. (In 2009 funded by U. Otago Research grant.)
Theoretical investigation of the dynamical properties of synaptic plasticity rules is the topic of PhD student Azam Shirrafi, start date 1/9/2011 (secondary supervisor Prof. Joerg Fraundiener ).

  • Gene regulatory networks in LTP with Dr. Joanna Williams from the Department of Anatomy at U. Otago. PhD student: Gonzalo S. Nido, start date 1/3/2011.

  • Functional networks of the brain with A/Prof. Liz Franz from the Department of Psychology at U. Otago to analyse the brain fMRI data by means of the graph theory. PhD student: Paul D. McCarthy, start date 1/4/2010. His programs and utilities for graph theoretical analysis are available for free here .

  • Neural network model of sensorimotor grounding of language with A/Prof. Alistair Knott and Dr. Martin Takac from Comenius University, Bratislava, Slovakia. (In 2009-2011 funded by the BuildIT Postdoctoral Fellowship).
